TIOX® is the special filter that works in combination with UV-C rays, designed and developed by LightProgress Research&Department. It's a nano-structured titanium dioxide filter, which in combination with the very high UVC power emitted by the lamps, is an excellent photocatalyst that degrades organic and inorganic pollutants (SOV, VOC, volatile organic compounds and NOX, nitrogen oxides) present in the environments.
In addition, the nano particles of TIOX® have a strong oxidizing power and amplify the germicidal effect of UV-C rays on microorganisms.

The reduction of the environmental atmospheric pollution can be achieved by a natural reaction, called photocatalysis. This is realized by a photocatalyst (TiOx®) which oxidizes, and then degrades, the pollutants. The TiOx ® is activated by solar ultraviolet radiation (UV) or by an artificial source, such as the high emission UV-C lamps placed inside a UV-FAN device.
Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nano-structured is the active ingredient that makes up the TiOx®. As nano-structured, that is decomposed into a gel of particles of linear dimension comparable to one billionth of meter, TiOx® has a large exchange surface and thus it is an excellent photocatalyst capable of degrading organic and inorganic pollutants such as VOCs, VOC (volatile organic compounds) and NOx (nitrogen oxide) produced by human activity. Photocatalysis transforms the pollutants into salts (sodium and calcium nitrate) and carbon dioxide (CO2).

Moreover, TiOx®, thanks to its receptive characteristics due to the fragmentation in nano particles, has the property to oxidize, or to decompose, the cells of bacteria in the presence of UV-C light, contrasting microbial growth.
Finally inhibits the formation of bad odors, decomposing toxic gases and odorous compounds that are the source of these unpleasant phenomena and can cause discomfort to people living in indoor environments. Malodorous substances such as ammonia, sulfur and sulfur compounds, are indicators of anaerobic fermentation.
Inside UV-FAN there are 2 TIOX® filter , one in the air inlet, built-in the fan, and the other one on the air outlet, inside the optical labyrinths. Inside our air purifier, TIOX® filter won’t wear, so you do not need to substitute it, unless it breaks or damage.
TIOX® filter is standard in all UV-FAN models.

UV-SMELL-SQ can be equipped with a TiOx® honeycomb filter (optional) coated with a special paint, consisting of titanium dioxide nano-particles and silver salts, with photo catalysts properties activated by UV-C rays. TiOx ® filter performs further oxidation of polluting particles, and contributes significantly to the deodorizing action of UV-C. At last, UV-SMELL-SQ can be equipped also with special lamps that generate UV-C + Ozone.

The strong oxidant action of ozone, combined with UV–C, breaks (oxidizes) smells macromolecules, reducing them to simpler molecules that can be extracted without causing bad odors and pollution. The TiOx® filters, in combination with UVC and O3 have self-cleaning properties. The duration depends on the substances with which come into contact. In UV-SMELL where oils and fat attack the filter surface, replacement is recommended at least once a year. Anyway replacent is fast and easy to do.
The great advantage of the TiOx® filter is that, unlike the classic filters (HEPA, Carbon, etc.), it does not relocate the source of pollutants but eliminates it.
